Great Blizzard of 1888
This blizzard lasted for three days straight, from March 11th to March 14th 1888. The eastern part of the United States are the spots that got this blizzard, they got 20 to 60 inches of snow, and they also had fifty foot drifts. The wind reached up to 45 miles per hour and about 400 people died in this blizzard. -
Johnstown Flood
The South Fork Dam broke in Johnstown, Pennsylvania after the town had several days of heavy rainfall. Because the dam broke and it brought down 20 millions tons of water and this water all came from Lake Conemaugh. The flood of this dam killed over 2.209 people, it is also called the Great Flood of 1889. -
The Great Galveston Hurricane
This "great" hurricane first hit Galveston Texas, and it reached up to 145 miles per hour of wind gusts, which makes it a Category 4 on the Saffir - Simpson Hurricane Scale. This hurricane was the most deadliest hurricane in all of us history. The death toll of this storm was between 6,000 and 12,000 people, which makes it the third highest storm of number of people who have died after the Great Hurricane of 1780, and 1998's Hurricane Mitch. -

Because of this earthquake there was many fires that broke out all over San Francisco and they lasted for several days before anybody could put them out. Because of the fire it caused around 3,000 people to die and most of San Francisco was destroyed. The earthquake and fires was one of the worst natural disasters in US history, next to the great Galveston Hurricane, and Hurricane Katrina. -
Sinking of the Titanic
The reason that the titanic sunk was because it hit a big iceberg. There is reason to believe that the titanic was unsinkable, but I guess whoever said that is wrong, because the titanic sunk. More than about 2,224 people on deck and 1,500 people died, which made this sinking one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. The titanic had hit an iceberg on April 14th, and than two hours and forty mintues later the titanic sunk and it was at around 5:18 in the morning of April 15th. -
Tri-State Tornado

This is recorded as the dealiest tornado in U.S. history, and it lasted for seven hours. This tornado was rated as an F5 tornado, it had 4.5 inch hail, and there was a track from were the tornado went for about 151 to 235 miles. There was 695 people who died throught all three of these states, and the states it went through are Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. -
Okeechobee Hurricane
This hurricane reached a Category 5, because it reached a wind mph of 160. The hurricane was first formed in Africa and traveled to Mexico, and later on the US. The hurricane destroyed 1,711 houses, and killed 4,078 people and drowned 2,500 people. The areas that were affected by this hurricane in the us are the Bahamas, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor is what lead the United States into World War II. 2,403 Americans died and 1,178 others were wounded in this attack. The Pearl Harbor Base in Hawaii was bombed and attacked by 353 Japenese fighter planes, bombers, and torepedo planes. -
Texas City Disaster
This was the dealiest industrial accident in U.S. history and one of the largst non nuclear explosions. The ship that was attacked was called the SS Grandcamp and with everything that was on it it weighed about 2,300 tons. This attack killed about 581 people, and it killed everybody but one person from the fire department, and it injuried about 8,485 poeple. -

They had gotten over fifteen inches of rain within a six hour period time. Since Rapid City got flooded that caused the flooding of the Battle, Spring, Bear Butte, and Boxelder Creeks. There was so much stuff that got washed into this flood that it killed 238 people, and injuried 3,057 others, it also destroyed 1,335 houses and 5,000 vehicles. -
Mount St. Helens
Mount St. Helens is inthe Cascade Range, is part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc, and it is one of the volcanoes in the Pacific Ring of FIre. Thi volcanoa is active and it is called a stratovolcano, it is located in Skamania Count, Washington. It is 96 miles from Seattle, and 50 miles from Portland. Mount St. Helens gets its name from a British man named Lord St. Helens. -
North American Drought
This drought covered most of North America and it is one of the worst droughts in the United States. The North American Drought went for two whole years from 1988 to 1989. The drought covered just about half of the entire United States. -
Oklahoma CIty Bombing
This was another terrorist attack, and it was taken out on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City. This terrorist attack was done by Timothy McVeigh, and Terry Nichols, this bombing killed 168 people, and 680 others. The bombing destroyed over 324 buildings within being sixteen blocks from the building, destroyed and burned 86 cars, shattered glass in 258 buildings that were nearby. -
Terrorism
The biggest thing that we know terrorism for is nine eleven. 2,996 people died on 9-11, and over 6,000 people were injured. Terrorism is an act of people from a different country who want Amercains to fear them, and be afraid of them. Nine eleven occured in the Tiwn Towers in New York City. Today there is a big memorial in the spot of the towers in honor of the people who died on 9-11-01. -
Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was the eleventh named storm in the United States. The highest that this storm reached to while it was passing thorugh is 175 mph, that is very very very fast. The areas that were affected by Hurricane Katrina are the Bahamas, Cuba Liousiana, New Orleans, Mississippi, Alabama, Floridam Panhandle, and most of eastern North America.
