Nez perce are led to Canada by Chief Joesph
The Nez Perce War was the name given to the United States Army's pursuit of the over 800 Nez Perce who had fled toward freedom. Initially they had hoped to meet up with the Crow nation in the Montana Territory, but when the Crow refused to give them aid, the Nez Perce went north in an attempt to reach the Sioux Chief Sitting Bull and his followers who had fled to Canada in 1876. -
The Carlisle School was established.
While the school was being built it recieved grants from the U.S. in support in Education of the Indians but this school did not last a long time. It closed its doors in 1918. -
The Dawes Act
Was created by Congress in 1887, authorized the President of the United States to survey Indian tribal land and divide it into portions for individual Indians and some small indian tribes. -
The battle of Wounded Knee
Troops went to disarm the Lakota camp. 150 indians were killed. 25 militia were killed. An Accidental firing of Black Coyotes gun started the massacre.
