French Revolution
In the 1800's nations had efforts to build nation-states. Nationalist were loyal to their country but not to their king these people belived that people under a single nationality should be under a single government. But after the French Revolution some people still wanted to restore the old way their country was governed. -
Uprisings
Nationalist forces rebelled against their foreign rulers this happened in Parma and Modena there were uprisings but they were crushed the same happened in 1848. -
Change in Ruling
Nationalism destroyed nationas but at the same time it also built nations. Italy was one of the countries that was build during the crumbling if an empire. Between 1815 and 1848 fewer and fewer italians were governed under foreign leaders. -
Unification of Italy
Trying to get a single ruler caused a war. People did not want to have to give up the parts of Italy that they ruled. Italy knew Austria would be the hardest to get freedom from so they got Napolean III to drive out Austria of northern Italy. Which caused a war to break out in Italy. -
Cavour and Garibaldi
Cavour was helping unify Italy while he was doing that he secretley started halping the southern Italy nationalist rebel. In May of 1860 they formed a small army that were ruled by Garibaldi. This then led to the unification of Italy -
Rome
Itialian forces took over the last part of the territory known as Papal States. Then with this Rome came under Itialian control. Soon after this Rome became the capital of the United Kingdom of Italy.
