Lava drain
Lorrin Thurston discovered a giant lava tube. Then it spilled over the edge flowing down. After awhile the lava drained out.This left cave like shells, that attract a lot of visitors. -
Try to make it a park
Thurston wanted to make the beautiful area a park. Unfortunately he's efforts failed. -

Dr. Thomas came to the islands to be a director of Hawaiian volcano observation. Together they came together and wrote letters, gave speeches. -
Signed as a national park
President Woodrow Wilson signed, Hawaii volcano national park. The countries 13th national park. It took ten years. -
At first
The park only consisted of summits of both of the volcanos. -
As it formed
as it formed there became, forests and deserts and more activities than the beginning. -

Haleakala was made a separate national park. the park has over 250 square miles volcanic wonders. -

The UNESCO names Hawaii volcano national park an International Biosphere reserve. -
