Focused Exhibits at Fancy Food Show
A low-carb diet craze sweeps the nation spurred by the publication of <i>The South Beach Diet: The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss</i>. By February 2004, a diet survey revealed that nearly one in 10 respondents were following a low-carb diet, but by 2005 the fad had faded. In the interim, NASFT opened a Carb-Conscious showcase as part of its Focused Exhibits area at the Fancy Food Shows to display members low-carb products. -
50th Anniversary of NYC Fancy Food Show
The Fancy Food Show celebrates its 50th anniversary at the Summer Show in New York City. To mark the milestone, NASFT created a book of food-related <i>New Yorker </i>cartoons, including a specially commissioned Fancy Food Show cartoon for the cover. -

Ann Daw is appointed president of NASFT following an extensive career in marketing and domestic and international brand-building. -
NASFT Introduces sofi Awards
NASFT overhauls its Annual Product Awards Competition, renaming it the sofi Awards for the 2008 competition and expanding the list of categories from 20 to 32—including new and redefined categories such as Outstanding USDA Certified Organic Shelf-Stable Product and Outstanding Chocolate. -
The Member Candidate Program Launches
The Member Candidate program launches, designed for young companies not quite ready for full NASFT membership. The program helps entrepreneurs build their business and includes such benefits as participation in the New Brands on the Shelf Pavilion at the Fancy Food Shows, as well as education resources. To date, 331 companies have participated in the program. -

NASFT Moves to Madison Avenue
NASFT moves it New York City office from its longtime home on Wall Street to 136 Madison Avenue. The new space boasts a chef’s kitchen used for press conferences, sofi Awards judging and member events. -
Consumers Embrace Healthful Food Trends
Current food trends include a resurgence of popcorn in flavors such as wasabi and truffle, and coconut flavors for beverages, snacks, spreads, toppings and dairy products. Consumers embrace the healthful properties of whole grains, and gluten-free foods grow in availability (and flavor profiles) across varied product categories. -
