Napoleon is born
Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio, Corsica. He came from a very noble family. They owned land and vineyards but weren't always wealthy. Napoleon was influenced by Maximilien Robespierre and his brother Augustin, who were Jacobins (pro-democracy).

Louisiana territory sold by Napoleon
Napoleon sold the French-owned land in the United States known as the Louisiana territory. He sold it because he thought it would be extremely difficult to defend in the event of an attack in addition to needing money to fund his wars.

Britain goes to war with France
Britain declares war on France consequently beginning the Napoleonic Wars. This also ended the Treaty of Amiens which was designed to inhibit peace in Europe.

The Senate of France announces who the new Emperor will be. Napoleon is declared the new Emperor but isn't officially in power until December 2, 1804.

Napoleon is crowned the Emperor
Napoleon crowns himself Emperor of France after the coup d'etat in 1799 where he obtained political power in France. His induction ceremony was held in Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Third Coalition goes to war
The Third Coalition was formed in 1803 and was made up of Russia, Britain, Austria, and other nations. 1805 was the year that the Coalition went to war with France, under Napoleon's rule.

Napoleon crowned king of Italy
Napoleon was crowned in Milan. He conquered a majority of Italy during the French Revolution which enabled him to become king.

Battle of Trafalgar
The Battle of Trafalgar was fought between Britain and France, with the victory going to Britain. British Admiral Nelson showed Napoleon and France that they were incapable of defeating the British Navy through their military tactics and in the end their victory.

Battle of Austerlitz
The Battle of Austerlitz, also known as the Battle of Three Emperors, was an example of one of the most definitive military battles during the Napoleonic Wars. The battle was fought between the Third Coalition and France. This was one of the most famous successes in Napoleon's career. It's estimated that 68,000 of Napoleon's troops conquered approximately 90,000 Russians and Austrians.

The Continental System is formed
The Continental System was created by Napoleon to block out Britain's trade. It was affirmed that France and its allies can not trade with Britain. Eventually, Russia decided to leave the Continental System driving Napoleon to invade Russia in 1812. Russia's exit was the turning point leading to the eventual downfall of Napoleon.

Battle of Friedland
The battle took place in the Kingdom of Prussia and Pravdinsk. Napoleon didn't fully destroy the Russian Army, but he did have a major win as a result of the Russians losing more men than the French Army.

Treaty of Tilsit
The Treaty of Tilsit established peace between Tsar Alexander I and Napoleon. The Tsar joined Napoleon's Continental System to form an alliance.

France began occupying Portugal because they ignored the enforcement of the British trade blockade otherwise known as the Continental System. It also made it easier for Napoleon to invade Spain in 1808.

The Peninsular War, fought by Spain and Portugal, with the assistance of Britain, against France came as a result of Napoleon's invasion of Spain. The war took place in the Iberian Peninsula and southern France. The Treaty of Paris concluded the allied victory. -

Napoleon's brother, Joseph Bonaparte, is appointed king of Spain. Joachim Murat is crowned King of Naples.

Prussia declares war on France
Prussia along with other nations part of the Sixth Coalition went to war with France resulting in Napoleon's defeat. Napoleon's power was growing by the minute, so the other European nations (Sixth Coalition) decided to step in to take Napoleon down. Their intent was to create a balance of power in Europe.

Spain defeats France
Spain defeats France in the Battle of Vitoria fought in Vitoria, Spain. This ultimately led to the end of the Peninsular War.

Battle of Paris
The collapse of Paris befell by the condition of Napoleon's final defeat. The Sixth Coalition consisting of Russia, Austria, and Prussia, took down the French Empire. Napoleon surrendered the day after the battle commenced. This ended the War of the Sixth Coalition.

Napoleon abdicates the French throne
With the downfall of Paris, Napoleon was forced to abdicate his position as Emperor of France. The throne was later taken over by a Louis XVIII thus restoring peace in France.
