    Napoleon took a group of soldiers to Egypt to try and interrupt British trade. The expedition was a huge failure but Napoleon was able to flee and make it back to France and cover up his losses so that he didn't look bad. This is why the campaign was both a success and a failure.

    Napoleon set up a 3-man governing system called the Consulate. After overthrowing the old system he took charge and put himself in the position of power and soon after was named first consul.

    The Banque de France was successful because it secured financial stability in France.

    It was both a success and failure because some rights were gained but others were undid.

    Napoleon met with Pope Pius VII to mend divisions created between the catholic church and the French Government made during the revolution. He also used this as a way to prop up his regime. Then the pope was arrested for refusing the demands of Napoleon. This was all beneficial to Napoleon.

    This was a success because after he named himself consul for life, he later had enough power to assume the title emperor.

    Napoleon names himself emperor and places the crown on his own head to show where the power comes from. At each step in his rise to power he held plebiscites and it seemed like the people wanted him in this position so this was a success.

    Napoleon attempted to close off the entirety of Europe form trading with Great Britain. Napoleon was unsuccessful in taking down Great Britain because of their sheer naval strength.

    This was a loss to the British at sea. This was a failure for Napoleon.

    Francis II abdicated the throne of the Holy Roman Empire. This was a success and a failure to Napoleon because one of his rivaling emperors had left the throne and possibly making the nation weaker. With the abolished Holy Roman Empire Napoleon could not seize the title and gain more power.

    In Napoleon's attempt to quell the resistance the spirit and determination of the people of Spain was greatly raised. This was not good for Napoleon because he needed the opposite to happen. The loyalists to the old throne were not squashed and Napoleon failed here. At some point Napoleon even executed some patriots.

    Napoleon tried to invade Russia but they soon ran out of supplies and food and had to retreat. From about 600,000 soldiers at the start of the invasion less than 20,000 survived. Napoleon's reputation after this loss was shattered.

    This was a failure to Napoleon because he lost the battle to the allied nations. On top of the military loss he was exiled to Elba as a punishment and lost his throne.

    After the Battle of Leipzig, Russia, Austria, Britain and Prussia exiled Napoleon to the small island of Elba. Louis XVIII took over while Napoleon was gone. This was a success for Napoleon because when he returned the people were glad to have him back and have the king off of the throne.

    These 100 days when Napoleon returned to France and the whole country was cheering for him and was excite that he was returning. Louis XVIII left the country and Napoleon once again took precedence over France. (no picture available to add)

    France was met with allied British and Prussian armies. These armies defeated the French and Napoleon was sent into exile on St. Helena.
