During the Reign of terror, Napoleon was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in the army. The reign of terror was a time of violence against enemies of the French Revolution. Napoleon was put under house arrest because of his relationship with Maximillien and Augustine Robespierre, who were the rulers at the time (History.com). -

France Tried to Regain Control of St. Domingue
Napoleon tried to regain control of the island St. Domingue to reestablish sugar production. He sent 23,000 soldiers to fight the slave's rebelion whom were seeking freedom. He was unsucessful as thousands of soldiers died of yellow fever (Beck 586). -
Sale of Louisiana Territory
Napoleon saw that the United States was interested in buying New Orleans so he sold them the Louisiana Territory which covered 828,000,000 square miles. He sold the Louisiana Territory to the president of the United States of that time Thomas Jefferson; for 15 million dollars (History.com). This was about $55 per a square mile (History.com). -
Emperor Napoleon
In the 1804 Napoleon decided to crown himself Emperor and the French people supported him. When the pope was going to crown him Emperor, he took the crown from his hands and placed it on his own head. Napoleon did this because he wanted to show that he was higher than the church (Beck 586) -
Exile to Elba
Napoleon had been exiled to the island of Elba on March 30, 1814 because of his military losses. Without him France struggled. His exile did not last long, as he escaped a year later (Biography.com). -
Napoleon Returns
Napoleon's second bid at power was known as the Hundred Days. He was then exiled again from France to the island of St. Helena. Getting exiled to St. Helena made Napoleon unable to return and take over France. (Gallagher 66) -
Napoleon's Death
Napoleon was sent into exile on the island St. Helena. He spent the rest of his life with the British governor, Sir Hudson Lowe. He died on the island of St. Helena from cancer on May 5, 1821 (Gallagher 66).
