  • First Consul for Life

    In 1799, Napoleon made an amendment making him the first consul for life.
  • Concordat

    Peasants and the Clergy wanted the Church back open, so Napoleon signed a document that reopened it with the Pope. It was called the 'Concordat'.
  • Emperor of the French

    The French gave Napoleon the throne, and crowned him emperor, since they supported him.
  • Napoleonic Code

    Napoleon took four years revising France's outdated legal system. The code provided men more authority over their families and stripped women of any rights. All males citizens were granted the right equal rights under law.
  • Battle of Trafalgar

    The British gain a victory while fighting a combination of French and Spanish fleet. After fighting for five hours the British destroyed the nineteenth French ships. No British fleets were destroyed but 1,500 men died. With a devastating lost, Napoleon learned that he should never try to invade England.

    Napoleon saw the British as a threat so he blocked off all of Britain to prevent anyone from trading with them. Although people would smuggle in and out of the country.

    Napoleon tried to invade Russia. They came when winter had arrived so the Russians had left. The Russians burned all their crops to starve the French, and the French soon fled.

    Defeat at Battle of Leipzig

    The Battle of Leipzig was the French against Russians, Prussians, Swedes, and Austrians. The French were outnumbered with men and weapons. The French Army brought 198,000 men with 717 guns, while the others brought 370,000 troops with 1,384 guns. This was the first battle that Napoleon was clearly defeated.

  • Battle of Waterloo

    The last defeat Napoleon faced, on June 18 1815 he attacked the British. In the late afternoon the Prussians came to fight against the French. Two days later Napoleon's exhausted retreated
  • St. Helena

    St. Helena was the remote island that Napoleon was sent to when he was exiled for the second time. It was located about 1,200 miles from the nearest land in West Africa. Perfect for the British who didn't want another repeat of Elba. After six years on the island Napoleon died.
