Mr. Gower is Naomi’s neighbor, and he molested her. Percy also molested her when they were playing hide-and-go seek. It is important because this could affect her in later years and it will always be with her. -
Grandma Nakane dies
Grandma Nakane dies of unknown reason. She was Buddhist so she was cremated with her bones and ashes returned to grandpa Nakane. It is important because she didn’t know what was really going on and this was her first family death. -
Her mom leaves with the grandma
Her mom and grandma choose to leave because Naomi’s great grandma was sick and they were going to Japan to take care of her. That was the last time Naomi got to see her mom. She was only five years old. It is important because her mom wasn't there for her and she didn't get to see what her life was like. -
Relocating to Slocan
Their new house was old and small, it was located away from people in the forest. It is important because her living situation changed. -
Naomi almost drowns
She was all by herself in the water and she didn’t know how to swim. It is important because something could of happened and nobody would've never known. -
Kids think she has TB
They think she has TB because her dad is in the hospital and Reiko’s mom said her dad has TB, so they all have it. It is important because kids didn’t want to be her friend since she has “TB”, with no friends she would be alone. -
Sho killed the chicken
She witnessed a chicken being killed. It is important because she witness her first animal death and maybe that could affect her when she gets older. -
Naomi’s father comes back
She awakens to see that her father is sleeping in their house. It is important because she didn’t see her dad for a long time and she needed her dad since her mom couldn’t be there. -
Naomi’s “mom died”
Her mom was in Japan when a bomb went off, they thought she was dead because she had a grave but she ended up living with injuries and a different appearance. It is important because she could have lost her mom and she would of never seen her. -
Uncle’s death
Uncle and Obasan raised Naomi like there own so when he died she lost her “father figure” and best friend. It is important because he basically raised her since her dad was always gone.
