An Educated Woman
Nancy Cartwright, American philosopher and Professor, was born on January 24, 1944 in Pennsylvania. Cartwright is well known for her seven books, and publications in many scientific journals. She earned her Bachelors degree in mathematics from the University of Pittsburg and also obtained a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Illinois Chicago. Her senior thesis was on the concept of quantum mechanics. -
Professor and Mentor
Following Cartwrights education she became a Professor at multiple distinguished universities such as The University of Maryland, Stanford University, and London School of Economics. A Best Selling Book
One of the most popular of Cartwrights works is Philosophy of Science, which " is concerned with how actual science achieves the successes it does, and what sort of metaphysical and epistemological presuppositions are needed to understand that success." This book earned Cartwright the Martin R. Lebowitz Prize for philosophical Achievement of the phi Beta Kappa Society, and was also rewarded with the Carl Gustav Hempel Award by the Philosophy of Science Association. (continued in comments) -

Currently Cartwright is a Professor of Philosophy at Durham University and a Distinguished Professor at the University of California. While she specialized in many concentrations such as natural science, mathematics, and physics, she now is focused in philosophy and methodology of social sciences and economics.
