Work in Philosophy of Quantum Mechanics
In the 1970's, Nancy Cartwright played a huge role in studying the philosophy of quantum mechanics. A field that was almost all men dominated, Cartwright still thrived and made a difference. Cartwright brought to the table different work on the laws of nature, and scientific practices; focusing on model-based policy, of which she touches on in her later books.

How the Laws of Physics Lie
Nancy first became well known from her many essays. Nancy Cartwright argued in these essays that scientific laws do not apply in real life. This stirred up a lot of controversy on the topic at hand. But ultimately Nancy's perception of this controversial topic was unchallenged.
  • The Dappled World

    The Dappled World
Nancy Cartwrights other book, Nancy again targets the laws of science and how they play into reality. Nancy makes it a point to prove that science does not necessarily need specific laws regarding science, but that science in itself can be proven or shown through models instead of laws.

    2017 Lebowitz Prize
In 2017 Nancy Cartwright and Elliott Sober win the Dr. Martin R. Lebowitz and Eve Lewellis Lebowitz prize. This prize was to recognize both Cartwrights and Sobers accomplishments in their success in philosophy. This award is especially interesting because it is to recognize 2 individuals with outstanding accomplishments in their fields of study whom both argue two different points on a designated topic. In 2017 their topic was, "Is there such a thing as the scientific method?"
