How the Laws of Physics Lie
Cartwright became known for her radical thesis "HOW THE LAWS OF PHYSICS LIE" in 1983. She argued the distinction between phenomenological and theoretical or fundamental laws. She believed that the laws of physics did not state truths about the world. Her attack on fundamentalism carries over to her book The Dappled World, published in 1999. -
The Dappled World
In this book, she continues to attack fundamentalism. The book argues against a vision of a world completely ordered by one single elegant theory. She doesn't necessarily think the laws of physics are wrong, but there are some discrepancies between them. -
