Fort Sumter
Started on April 12, 1861 and ended on April 14, 1861
The fort was on fire after the battle and was almost lost. The Union had to surrender because the were low on supplies and ammo. There was only one death in this battle because the cannon miss fired and killed thim. The fort was almost lost in the fire but the confederates won the fort and held it but i allowed lincoln to say that the confederates fired first on the union witch spard the Civil War -
First Bull Run
Started on July 21, 1861 and ended on July 22, 1861
The confederates won the battlebecause they managed to brake the line. The confederates lost only 1,750 people but the union lost 3,000.The confederates had more hope becasue it was there state that was going to be lost if they did not fight for every inch. Both sides reliazed that they would be in for a long haul when the battle was over.The southerners had more to hope for and the union was hit very hard that they would have to fight more. -
Shiloh
Started on April 6, 1862 and ended on April 7, 1862
The confederates lost the battle and the union one. They both suffored more than 10,000 deaths. All the union did to win was they took over there camp agian. The outcome was that they got there camp back by reinforcing there troops. -
Hampton Roads
Started on May 9, 1862 and onded the same day on May 9,1862
The confederates won the battle and the union lost the battle. The monitor was lost and 16 men in all. The confederates just kept on commingand hit the monitor and got stuck in shallow water. The outcome made the south happy that they may brake and made the north wonder if they could brake throug the line. -
Sportsylvania
Started on May 9, 1862 and ended on May 18 ,1862
The union won again and the south lost. The south lost about 18,000 Union and 11,000 Confederate casualties. They held the Cold Harbor and lee had to fall back once again The outcome was that Grant never gave up and lead to the Union victorie -
Chancellorsville
Started on April 30,1862 and ended on May 6, 1863
The confederates won the battle. The union lost 17,278 and the confederates lost some 12,826. Hook left 27,000 troops behind and that was a mistake becsue lee flanked him. The outcome was that lee now could go to gettsburgh witch was in the north witch was close to taking over the north. -
Gettsburg
Started on July 1, 1863 and ended on Jun 3, 1863
The union won the battle and the confederates lost. The confederates lot 28,000 and the union only 23,000 it was a victorie for the north. The south retreated to vargina. The outcome was that is changed to tides of the war forever. If it was not for gettsburg we would not be hair to day lee lost one third of his army . -
Vicksburg
Started on May 3 1863 and ended on July 4, 1863
The union won the battle of Vicksburg. They had some injuries but not to much the confederates were low on food and had to surrender. The union seiged the town and that is why they had to surrender the city.
They got the city and took over Fort Henry, Fort Donelson, and Memphis in Tennessee and New Orleans in Louisiana. North control of the entire course of the river, and able to isolate those Confederate states that lay west of the river. -
Wilderness
Started on May 5, 1864 and ended on May 7, 1864
The Union one the battle and the confederates lost. The union lost 17,500 people dead and the confederates lost 10,500 people. They won because they fix there line and did not retreat. The outcome was they could move to the lower edge of the wilderness and try to get Spotsylvania Courthouse. -
Mobile Bay
Started on August 5, 1864 and ended on August 23, 1864
The union won the battle of moble bay. The confederates lost the Tennessee and later lost the fort. They won becasue a captain charged ahead and defeated the Tennessee. The out come is that they got the most important harbor from the confederates and the fort and sealing the Gulf coast from further blockade running.
