Tom and Nick visit Myrtle
After getting off of the train, Tom and Nick go to Wilson’s garage. Tom and Wilson share some comments about work but Tom soon will get tired and look around impatiently for Myrtle. Myrtle accepts Tom’s proposal on getting on the next train and going to NYC with them. -
She buys a magazine
She buys a magazine called: Town Tattle in the news-stand as well as a moving picture magazine. -
Myrtle changes her outfit
Myrtle changed her outfit before taking the train to a dress brown figured muslin that was tight on her wide hips. -
She lets four taxis pass before she choses one
Outside, in the busy streets, she let four taxis pass before she selected a new one lavender-colored. -
She buys a dog
Firstly she wants a police dog for the apartment but finally, she gets an Airedale which costs 10 dollars. An elevator man went for a box full of straw and some milk where he added dog-biscuits. -
Calls up several people
She calls her sister, Catherine to come to her house. Also, she talks with Mr. and Mrs. Mckee to go to her house, too. -
She receives a compliment from Mrs. Mckee
Mrs. Mckee compliments Myrtle’s dress but she rejects it by raising her eyebrow in disdain adding that it’s an old thing that she puts on when she doesn’t care how she is looking. However, Mrs. Mckee insists on how wonderful it is. -
She recognises she did a mistake marrying George
Myrtle says that she married George because she thought he was a gentleman and that he knew something about breeding but he wasn’t fit to lick her shoe.” -
She explains an anecdote from about the suit of George
He borrowed somebody’s best suit to get married in, and never even told her about it, and the man came after it one day when he was out. ‘oh, is that your suit?’ she said. ‘this is the first I ever heard about it.’ she said. But she gave it to him and then she lay down and cried to beat the band all afternoon.” -
She explains Nick how Tom and she met
It was on the two little seats facing each other that are always the last ones left on the train. She was going up to New York to see her sister and spend the night. She couldn’t keep her eyes off him. When they came into the station he was next to her. She was so excited that when she got into a taxi with him she hardly knew she wasn’t getting into a subway train. All she kept thinking about, over and over, was ‘You can’t live forever; you can’t live forever. -
She tells Mrs. Mckee she is going to give her something tomorrow
She told Mrs. Mckee that she was going to give her the dress as soon as she through with it. She had to get another one the next day. -
Tom and Daisy argue
Some time toward midnight, Tom and Mrs. Wilson start discussing and she tells him that she can yell Daisy’s name whenever she wants, but Tom, angry-making a short movement broke Mrs. Wilson nose.
