    Nat Turner led a band of African Americans who armed themselves with guns and axes. In 1831 at Southampton County VIrgina killed sixty white men, woman, and children.
    Southern blacks were not content with being slaves that they yearned for freedom being this the cause that eventually leads to the Civil War
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot Proviso
    David Wilmont proposed at the end of The Mexican War prohibiting slavery in any territory aquired from Mexico in 1846. The proposal was to settle down the south and north over the new territories. But aroused distrust and suspicion between Southerns and Northerners reaveling the gap between them. The Southerns believed this was a attacked from Northerners.As a result free soil was formed, politicans could no longer ingnore slavery leading to the civil war.

    Februrary 2 1848, Trist reaches an agreement with the new Mexican Government on the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo by which agreed to cede California & New Mexico to the U.S. America had aquire new territory but now there was the question wether would be a salve or free state. To deal with the problem congress passed the compromise of 1850. Making California free but utah & New Mexico people choose wether to make it a slave or free state which is called popular sovereignty leading to civil war.

    Henry clay propsed the fugitive slave law which compelled Northerners to seize and return escaped slaves to the south as part of the compromise of 1850. Causing many abloitionists to incrase their efforts against slavery and increased the Underground Railroad making their way to canada. Southerners began appearing in the northern states to persue people they claimed were fugitive. Mobs were formed in some northern cities to prevent enforcement of the law leaning more to the civil war.

    Harriet Stowe in 1852 wrote the most powerful document of abolitionist propaganda work of fiction Uncle Toms Cabin (potrayal of good , kindly slaves victimized by a curel system ).
    Novel helped to inflame sectioinal tesnsions to a new level of passion for both the south and north. Stowe opean the eyes of many more people especially in the north who realized even more that slavery was not okay and slavery should be abolished eventually this event was another factor that led to the civil war.

    The kansas-Nebraska act was passed allowing popular sovereignty in both states and the white settlers began moving almost immediately from both the south and north. The two factions struggled for 5 years with spordiac outbreaks of blodshed that claimed 56 lives in which one was going to win the popular vote. This were small a small taste that slowly are accumulating to the civil war.

    Preston Brooks from South Carolina hit Charles Sumner in the head with a heavy cane repeatedly. Sumner was trapped in his desk and rose with agnoy and collapsed bleeding and unconscious. Sumner was a hero in the North and Brooks a hero in the South. Making it more clear than ever that slavery was a big issue that would eventually lead to Civil War.

    Jhon Brown considered himself an instrument of God to destory slavery. 6 followers, 4 of his son and himself mutilated 5 pro-slavery left them in the opean for others who were pro-slavery to see and to discourage them from coming to kansas this was known as the pottawatomie Massacre that eventually will lead to the civil war. Jhon Brown also in oct 16 seized control of a U.S arsenal in Harpers ferry Virgina with 18 followers. Hoping to have slave uprising but got stop by Robert E. Lee.

    Dred Scott is a Virgina slave who tried to sue for his freedom. Argued that he lived as a slave in free state with his owner. Supreme Court said Scott is property therefore theres no case. Tanely however said 5th Amendment prohibited congress to pass a law depriving persons of their slave property in the territories. Abolitionists increased their effort against slavery leading to the Civil War.

    Lincoln's eleectrion became the final signal to many white southerners that their positions in the union was hopless becasue LIncoln is against slavery. Which eventually lead to diunioin and began a process that would quickly lead to a prolonged and bloody war with eachother believing they shared no common ground with eachother eventually leading to the Civil War.
