My Time in El Ed 445

  • First Day of Social Studies

What does Social Studies mean to you? Social studies is the study of people, cultures, and governments. It is based on past and current events and how those have affected or will affect people.
  • Second Day of Social Studies

    Second Day of Social Studies
    Feed the World:
During this activity, I was surprised by the lack of food in other countries. It made me think about what I would do to change it and how I would teach food distribution to my students when speaking about the world. I was the Middle East leader and received one brownie yet others had too much or too little.
  • First Discussion with Someone Outside of Class

After the feed the world activity, I felt strongly about justice and food distribution. I search for ways we are combating hunger. My husband and I had a long conversation about what the United States is capable of and what we are currently doing to provide for ourselves and others. We tied that to The Church and how The Church cares for those in need.
  • Third Day of Class

    Third Day of Class
One of my biggest takeaways from the reading "Living in the Global Village: Strategies for Teaching Mental Flexibility | Social Studies" was about preparing our students for jobs and opportunities that do not exist today. I never thought about that before, but I know we can prepare them as we become more effective teachers. It focuses on perspective and what we can do to encourage a growth mindset for the rest of their lives.
  • Wellness Wise Event

    Wellness Wise Event
For my first choiceboard, I decided to go to the Wellness Wise Event. This event truly helped me reflect on all domains and how I was able to accomplish so much already. It reminded me of what to continue doing and what I could improve on.
  • Preparing for My First Morning Meeting

During this day, I thought about how I could have a morning meeting with my students on the first day we met. I decided I want to do an activity that helped them get to know me and vice versa. I made a quick plan for my first two morning meetings and was quite excited to meet my students and teach them.
  • Knowing My Practicum Assignment

    Knowing My Practicum Assignment
I found out my practicum assignment today and decided to change my morning meeting to better fit my students' ages and abilities.
  • Learning about Timelines

We learned about timelines this day and I never thought I would use it again until I taught in school. It was interesting to create living and illustrated timelines and see how those could benefit my students.
  • We the People Conference

    We the People Conference
After this conference, I was excited to learn more about it. I showed my husband the new books I received and how I would use them in my classroom. I knew I would talk to my sister-in-law about it because she teaches middle school social studies.
