  After a hungry and cold night in the Catskill's, Sam finds a little house in the mountains. He knocks on the door and meets a nice man named Bill. Sam shows Bill the fish he caught but couldn't cook, so Bill teaches Sam to make a fire.

  Sam spends the rest of June smoking, tanning, and finally, starting his deerskin suit.
 - 
  
  Even though Sam didn't wat to, he helped the lady pick strawberries the walked her back to her house. Then visited Miss Turner

  Sam picked Frightful because she is a female, and the females are bigger than the males

  Sam makes salt by boiling hickory sticks dry leaving behind a black powder that has a salty flavor

  Sam makes his bed from ash slats covered with hemlock boughs

  Sam is needing some new clothes, so he makes a figoure four trap to hopefully catch a deer.

  Frightful can't fly. Her feathers are only about an inch long. Sam still has hope in her so he strokes her to calm her

  Sam ties a piece of meat on some wood, covered with hide and feathers. He throws it in the air and Frightful will swoop out of the sky and catch the lure. After a few tries, Frightful never dropped the lure.

  Sam wants a raft so he can fish in deep holes

  Bando makes potter so they can eat jam

  Bando takes clay from the river to makes ids and jars for the homeade jam

  Sam and Bando play song on the whistles that make them cry, and Bando will leave soon. But he plans to return on Christmas

  Bando had to go back to teaching and Sam is lonely. But then Sam rembers it fun to play with Frightful and The Baron Weasle

  Sam makes a fireplace with a chimmney for inside the tree

  Sam is stocking up on nuts for winter

  After nobody shows up for the first night, Sam decides to put out some food for his animal friends
 - 
  
  When Sam wakes up the day after the Halloween party, he gets a big surprise. There's food scattered all over and the animals have gotten in Sam's food supplies

  The seansons are changing so the animals are getting ready for the winter. The Weasle's fur is changing colors and Sam relizes he needs underwear!
 - 
  
  Sam hears gun shots and reaalizes that his clothes make him a danger for getting shot (because there made of deer.) He sets out to the tree tops and he sees a deer a hunter shot but can't find. Sam got three deer that season.
 - 
  
  Sam walked into town one day and met boy about his age. Sam calls him "Mr. Jacket" Sam also realizes he needs to stalk up on wood.

  An article in the New York newspaper says that they suspect a "Wild Boy" living in the Catskill Mountains, living off deer meat and nuts.

  Sam put his wood close to his tree entrance. He plans to make a tunnel through the snow to his piles of wood if the snow gets deep.

  Deer season is over and Sam has great venison steak to eat. He also has plenty of deer hides. He and Frightful have the Mountain to themselves.

  ..on the third day of December when the sky blackened and snow began to fall, Sam was scared

  Sam is holed up in his tree house with Frightful and his winter supply of food.

  The "strawberry lady" reports to the newspaper that she had a siting of the "Wild Boy" living in the Catskill Mountains

  It's nearly Christmas and Bando still hasn't come. Sam worries that Bando doesn't want to come or he was just to busy

  Bando returns to the Catskills to spend the Christmas with Sam.He brings sugar for the jam and newspaper articles
 - 
  
  Sam's dad finds Sam on the mountain by shouting out Sam's name. He meets Bando and Frightful and stays till the new year.
 - 
  
  Dad thinks Frightful is beautiful even though she doesn't like him that much. He also likes her because she helps provide Sam with food.
 - 
  
  Christmas is over and Bando needs to get home so he can grade papers before school starts up again.
 - 
  
  When Dad sees that Sam is doing fine in the mountains, he stays for christmas and then goes home
 - 
  
  He thinks its a mouse, and it turns out he's right, a small, white mouse
 - 
  
  The snow is deep on the mountain, so Sam decides to make snowshoes so he can walk in the snow easily
 - 
  
  Sam sees the mouse that's in his tree and feeds him some nut meats. Yay! another new friend.
 - 
  
  Sam sees this as a sign that the "Gribley Farm is a beautiful place indeed"
 - 
  
  Winter is taking its part on the wildlife in the mountains. Sam helps the deer by cutting green branches for the deer herd.

  Sam belives that the owls may lay eggs .

  Sam climbs the maple tree to get to the owl's nest. He sees that they absolutely have lated eggs. They're warm to the touch.
 - 
  
  Sam has to tunnel through the ice to get to his tree, but its not a big problem.
 - 
  
  The book said: "At the end of February, the sap began to fall from the trees. I tapped some trees and boiled the sap.

  Matt is a boy about Sam's age. He works for the newspaper in Poughkeepsie called New Yorker. He came to the Catskills looking for the "wild boy" thinking he could get a good story about him.

  Winter is fading away . Jessie C. James tending for her babies. Threre are plenty of fish in the streams for Sam to eat.

  Aaron is a man from Nw York that writes songs. Sam taught him his "Cold Water Song"

  They had chicken for dinner. "Ckicken is good, it tastes like chicken"

  Sam's mother didn't want to live in a tree. She insisted they have a house with walls, light, and a fireplace.
