My Reading Journey

  • Early Childhood (3-5 ages)

    Picture Books: My parents read bedtime stories to me like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", and it made me love stories that have colorful illustrations.

    Kindergarten teacher would use phonics-based songs and do story time with books like "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" I developed early literacy skills and got curious about words.

    My teacher and parents introduced to me the vowel song and what they were. It helped me to helped me develop more literacy skills and it got me interested in learning other songs.

    Classroom teacher grouped students by reading level and provided books for us to read. It introduced me to new genres that I did not know before like fantasy.

    Teacher would give us a book like "The Giver" for book reports or assignments based on the book. This allowed me to analyze a book at a deeper level and be creative with assignments. It helps me understand big words as well.

    Friends would recommend me science fiction books like "Harry Potter". Exploring new genres helped me develop more knowledge about different genres that I was not aware of.
