My Reading History

  • Read All Creatures Great and Small

Read All Creatures Great and Small
Around 1995, I would lay in bed and fall asleep to my mom reading me vet stories from James Herriots books, All Creatures Great and Small. I would start dozing off, and my mom would stop reading, but I'd wake back up and beg her not to stop reading, even though I was exhausted!

First Harry Potter book was released
In 1997, my Aunt purchased the first Harry Potter book for me! We would sit and read it together every night for several weeks. This series sparked a love of reading that I never would have known if my aunt hadn't purchased the first book for me!
  • Misty Of Chincoteague Series

    Misty Of Chincoteague Series
This was probably one of the first series of books that I read independently. I was horse obsessed as a child and this series held my interest and was exciting to read.
  • Shel Silverstein

    Shel Silverstein
In the early 2000s I fell in love with the Shel Silverstein books, 'Where The Sidewalk Ends', 'A light in the Attic', and the 'Giving Tree'. These poems brought light hearted humor into my life and I went on to memorize may of the poems, some that I still recite to my own children today!
  • Shakespeare Classics

    Shakespeare Classics
As a future teacher, this is probably blasphemy, but I've never enjoyed reading Shakespeare. Throughout my high-school career, I had various teachers assign classic Shakespeare stories and plays and I struggled to read and understand them. This was disappointing to me as they are such famous pieces that are world renowned and I just didn't like them.

It was important to me to read to my children as they grew up. One of my favorite children's authors was Sandra Boynton.
  • Hunger Games re-ignited my love of reading

Hunger Games re-ignited my love of reading
I was a stay at home mom when the Hunger Games trilogy was popular. A few years after the books were released, I decided to pick one up and I couldn't put it down! This was probably the fastest I've ever read any books.
  • Read Chronicals Of Narnia to my children

Read Chronicals Of Narnia to my children
I remember watching a cartoon movie of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe when I was a child, so I decided to read the series to my children. This series taught me that it's okay to not finish a book that you're not enjoying. We tried for weeks to read The Horse and His Boy, but we found it quite boring. We finally put it down before finishing it and began reading the next book in the series.

Read Frindle with a group of students
As a reading paraprofessional, I was working with a group of 3rd graders. I chose the book Frindle to read with them and we all fell in love with the book. I loved watching these kids who struggled to read, not want to put the book down because they were enjoying the story so thoroughly!
