My Reading Growth in 7th Grade

  • A Mango Shaped Space

    A Mango Shaped Space
5 out of 5 stars. This is a story about Mia , a thirteen year old girl who just got diagnosed with synesthesia. This causes her senses to jumble up, words to have color and noises to have symbols and colors. Throughout the book, Mia tries to find her way now that everyone knows she has synesthesia and later on in the book, tries to live with the death of her cat Mango. I liked this book because it was similar to another book I like, a story about a girl who overcome her disability.
  • Kira Kira

    Kira Kira
4 out of 5 stars. Kira Kira follows Katie Takeshima as she moves from a japanese community in Iowa to Georgia for her father's job. Katie struggles to fit in in her new school and town, being that she is the only japanese person the kids have ever seen, and her sister is her only friend so when her sister becomes ill and dies it really hurts her. I like this book but I felt like some chapters could have been left out because they weren't important.
  • The Outsiders

    The Outsiders
5 out of 5 stars. Ponyboy lives in a town split by wealth, in the poor side greasers live and in the rich side Socs (stands for socials). When Ponyboy get scolded by his brother Darry for being out too late he gets knocked into a spiral of events, Johnny killing someone, them fleeing, and in the end having two of his best friends die. I liked the story of this book but I didn't like the fast pace, the story happens over a week but it feels like months.
  • Sang Spell

    Sang Spell
  • Nzingha the Warrior Queen

    Nzingha the Warrior Queen
  • The Clockwork Three

    The Clockwork Three
5 out of 5 stars. This is a story about three kids whose stories intertwine, they help each achieve what they need. Giuseppe wants to get freed and go back home to Italy, Hannah wants to get more money for her family so her dad can get better and she can stop working and go back to school, Frederick is a young clockwork apprentice who wants to get into the clock maker's guild. I liked this story because the chapters alternated from being in Frederick's, then Giuseppe's, then Hannah's POV.
  • Walk Two Moons

    Walk Two Moons
  • The Book Thief

    The Book Thief
5 out of 5 stars. This is a story about an orphan named Liesel who lives in the Hubermann household. It is set during world war two in Germany, so her town is war stricken. Liesel and her family try to protect a Jew in their basement through all of it, a debt payment to Max's (the jew) father who saved Hans, Liesel's foster father. I loved this book because the book was written beautifully, every page a quote, and because of the surprising ending.
  • True Believer

    True Believer
  • Red Queen

    Red Queen
In this story the whole world is split by blood, red and silver, red are poor and this in small villages, silvers have powers and are nobles and royalty. One day Mare ends up meeting the silver prince, while he is undercover, and gets her a job at the palace. Mare starts working at the palace and in a freak accident that should've killed her, she lives and learns that she can control electricity. I liked this book because the ending was really a surprise that I didn't expect.
  • The Giver

    The Giver
3 out of 5 Stars. In this book Jonas' whole life is set up in a specific way. There is no color, no emotions, nothing, someone chooses your job, spouse, and children, there is no choice. Jonas gets chosen to be the next Receiver of Memory, a highly honered job, and ends up doing something to change the community. I didn't like that this book was VERY slow and that some chapters could've been taken out completely.
