    Hurricane Floyd was among the largest Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded.This hurricane triggered the third largest evacuation in United States history.This hurricane was a category four which is large considering the scale only goes to five.
  • George W. Bush was elected President

    George W. Bush was elected President
    George W. Bush was elected President on November 7th 2000. He ran against Senator John Kerry. Bush was elected and ended up serving two terms.
  • 9/11

    9/11
    On September 11th, 2001 a two passenger terroist plane crashed into the Twin Towers in New York CIty.The Twin Towers were up and running and people were inside the building. Many New York City firefighters died in this disaster. The towers ended up coalapsed along with seven surrounding buildings. A new memorial to honor those who passed is being placed on the spot where the two towers used to stand,

    The Smoke Free Air Act of was passed on July 20th 2002.This act protects New York City workers from having to deal with second hand smoke. This act has cut down on the number of asthma related deaths in New York City.

    The ice storm of 2003 lasted from February 14 to February 19 for a total of 5 days of ice and cold. New York state declared a state of emergency meaning there would be no unessacary travel. There were 120,000 people left with out electricity.

    The Boston Red Soxs won the 100th world series. The Red Soxs had not won a world series since 1918. They beat out the St. Louis Cardinals to win the series.

    H1N1 (swine flu)
    H1N1 or more commonly known as swine flu was just starting to make its presence known in the United States in about May of 2005.H1N1 had been in Mexico for a long time but it was starting to enter the southern United States in places like Arizona and New Mexico and other states that border Mexico.Scientist had just started working on getting a vaccine out for the public when cases became more frequent. Some people died from H1N1 but most of the death count was mostly young children and ederly.

    Plane Crashes into Apartments NYC
    In New York City on October 11th a plane crashed into Belair Apartments located on the south side of New York City.The plane was a two passenger plane and it crashed into the north side of the building causing a small fire that was later put out. The passengers in the plane were New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle and flight instructer Tyler Stagner. Both passengers were killed on impact.

    This snow storm lasted from February 5th to February 9th and hit mostly centreal New York. Many schools were closed the whole week during this horrible storm due to the large amounts of percipitation, Many of the schools also canceled winter break.

    Barrak Obama was elected president on November 4th of 2008. His term as president will last from 2008 to 2012 unless he is reelected. He is the first african american/mixed racial president the United States has ever had.

    A metal sculpture was made of Lake Ontario to capture its beauty. The sculpture is about 20 feet tall and weighs about 300 pounds. The sculpture is made of copper and was made by C.J Rench.

    2010 Winter Olympics
    The 2010 winter olympics were held in Vancouver Canada and lasted from February 12 to February 28.Some events are; alpine skiing, biathalon, bobsleigh, cross country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboard, and speed skating. The United states took home 36 medals.

    Osama Bin Laden is Killed
    Osama Bin Laden was the terrorist who planned the attack on the twin towers.He has been wanted dead ever since that attack by the United States government. He was killed on May 2, 2011 in a firefight in Abbottabad, Pakistan. He was later buried at sea.
