    Started Kindergarten
I started kindergarten. It was stressful at first because I was not used to being away from home. This was the beginning of my academic career.

    Visited Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone was one of the first major national parks that I visited. I really enjoyed seeing animals that I had never seen before. I also was in awe of the geysers.

    Moved Up to GT Math
I had been in on grade math up until third grade when I was moved into the advanced math class. I then proceeded to GT Math in fourth grade after taking a test. It felt like a big transition at first, but after I adjusted, I felt more confident in my math skills and really grew to appreciate math.

    Visited Western Region of U.S.
During the summer after my sophomore year of high school, I visited the western region of the U.S. with my family, which I had not really done before except for when I visited Yellowstone. It was exciting because the landscape looks so different there, and there are so many landmarks. We visited sites like the Hoover Dam, Zion National Park, and the Grand Canyon.

    Started Working at Dollar Tree
I started working at Dollar Tree after my first semester at HCC. This was my first real job, which meant I had to submit an application and go to an interview. I got hired fairly easily, and I was soon taught how to operate the cash register and stock merchandise. I continue to work at Dollar Tree.
  • Started Remote Learning due to Pandemic

Started Remote Learning due to Pandemic
Back in March, HCC classes were canceled to prepare for the possibility of remote learning. Soon afterwards our spring break was moved forward and we were told the rest of our semester would be remote. I was shocked at the time and worried about how I would adjust, but I managed just fine by staying in touch with my professors and keeping track of upcoming assignments. Despite this disruption, I have still been learning a great deal.
  • First Time Voting in a Presidential Election

First Time Voting in a Presidential Election
I voted for a president for the first time since I was not old enough the last time around. Although I had voted during the special election for Maryland's 7th district and the primaries, this event felt especially important. It made me feel more grown up since I could participate in our country's democratic process.
