My mom begins to read all types of literature, including newspapers, novels, children's books, signs o. the road -
First spoken word
I said my first word: Mama

Kindergarten
I begin to learn skills to become a reader. -
Moved to new school
My family moved to a new a new town and I began to attend a new school. I struggled with identifying letters of the alphabet and connecting sounds with letters. -
Transitional class
I was placed in a transitional class, which was for students at risk of failure. It was between Kindergarten and 1st grade. I gained further support to strengthen my reading skills (and I suspect skills for other subjects too). -
First Grade
Began 1st grade with strengthened reading skills. My love and enjoyment of reading exploded. My teacher supplied me with various types of books every few days. -
Fifth Grade
State testing identified me as being in the top 5% of the state in Math. My strongest area was problem solving due to my reading comprehension skills so i could understand the word problems. -
8th Grade
I began a history class with a teacher that inspired my love of U.S. History. I devoured all material to gain as much background information I could. -
College
I began college. I was sent to the Writing Lab for a few sessions to strengthen my writing skills. -
Process and Aquisiton of Reading Class
During a module for this college class, I learned there is a science behind reading. I gained more insight on my own journey in literacy and more knowledge how I can help my students.
