    FC: Columbus sailed on the largest ship on his first voyage called the Santa Maria
    C: This date is important in 2019 because it was the day the voyage started to the new world.
    RATING:3/5 just because the movie was alright

    12 Years A Slave
    E: 1841 two white men tricked Solomon Northup into going to Washington D.C. where he was kidnapped and sold into slavery and was kept as a slave for 12 years.
    FC: Solomon Northup wrote a book called 12 Years A Slave, telling about his experience
    C: Show us today how terrible slavery was and reminds us not to repeat history.

    E: 1864 the 13th amendment was passed by congress abolishing slavery in the United States.
    FC: the 13th amendment was passed by congress april 8 1864 and January 31st 1865 the amendment was passed by the house making America truly free.
    C: shows us that not everyone was racist and how horrible slavery actually was , showed how many people wanted slavery to come to an end
    rating: 5/5 because it was a very good movie and i'd watch it again. most of the characters looked very familiar

    FACT CHECK: although this movie is fictional, Sam Krichinsky came to America to work with his brothers as wallpaper hangers in Baltimore in the early 20th century

    CONNECTION: People have been coming to America to start better lives for themselves and their families for a VERY long time
    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐because I only got to see one day of the movie and what I seen was pretty good.

    EVENT: When the men started running out of the trenches many of them were instantly shot and killed
    FACT CHECK: There were tunnels that led into the trenches so that they wouldn't instantly be killed
    CONNECTION: Movies like this show us what war looks like. It isn't pretty!
    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ The movie was good but I don't like seeing war senses because my dad is an active duty Marine.

    EVENT: The Joad family headed for California in search of work and a place to live. On their way to California they stopped at a camp and ran into people on the same mission.
    FACT CHECK: The Great Depression left 24.9% of Americans jobless.
    CONNECTION: The movie may be fictional but these events happened in real life to many families.
    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Because I really like Henry Fonda.

    FACT CHECK: The Tuskegee airmen were the first black military pilots, best known for their war efforts in WWll
    CONNECTION: You can go visit the red tail planes in their traveling air show
    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ Although the story was good, the acting was kind of corny

    Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom
    EVENT: Nelson Mandela was taken to the island prison.
    FACT CHECK: Nelson Mandela was held at 3 different island prisons 1) Robben Island 2) Pollsmoor Island 3) Victor Verster Prison.
    CONNECTION: People today still protest for their rights.
    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I missed two days of the movie. but what I seen was good.

    Rescue Dawn
    EVENT: Dieter Denglers plane was shot down and the Vietcong captured Dieter and kept him as prisoner. Torturing him, and taking him to a camp where they kept more prisoners.

    FACT CHECK: During the Vietnam War approximately 2,500 Americans were kept as prisoner of war (POW) and only 1,200 Americans were reported missing in action (MIA)
    CONNECTION: There is now a flag today (hanging in the classroom) for the people who were POW or MIA.
    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I liked the movie. I thought it was funny.

    Selma
    E: MLK lead a march from Selma to Montgomery. On the first day of the march, the protestors only made it to the bridge at the edge of the city and were beaten. The second day, the protestors made it to the bridge again, but King made them all turn around due to his intuition.
    FC: 600 people came to protest for voting rights, marching from Selma to Montgomery.
    C: Today there is still racism and police brutality. Especially on social media.
    R: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Very good movie!
  • Forrest Gump

    Forrest Gump
    EVENT: Forrest Gump joins the army, where he meets his best friend Bubba. Bubba dies in the Vietnam War, but Forrest keeps his promise to Bubba and buys a shrimp boat, the starts a seafood restaurant chain called Bubba Gump.
    FACT CHECK: There's really restaurant called Bubba Gump. The closest Bubba Gump restaurant to us is in Chicago.
    CONNECTION: In the beginning of the movie the doctor was smoking a cigarette right in his office. That WOULD NOT happen today.
    RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ I LOVE IT
