He died at Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul on November 10, 1938 at 9.05, unable to recover from the cirrhosis he contracted. His body was buried with a ceremony on 21 November 1938 at the Ankara Ethnography Museum, his temporary resting place. After the mausoleum was built, his body was buried in his eternal resting place on November 10, 1953, with a magnificent ceremony.
