    Nazis take the Sudetenland
    Germany threatened to take the Sudetenland by force and the Czechoslovakian government didn’t want to give it up. Czechoslovakian allies Britain and France wanted to avoid all war cost so Britain and France just gave Sudetenland to Hitler with no fighting. Britain and France told Czechoslovakian accept the terms or resist the Nazis on their own. Hitler met in Munich with the Prime Ministers of Britain, France and Italy to reach a final settlement. The Munich Agreement did not bring on peace.

    Ribbentrop/Molotov Pact
    Representatives from Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union met to sign the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact. This guaranteed that the two countries would not attack each other. The Soviet Union was awarded land and Germany had protected itself from having to fight in a war. The pact was broken when Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union less than two years later. The Nazis broke the pact by attacking Poland which the Soviets owned.

    Hitler invaded Poland because he had a plan, the "racially superior" Germans would colonize the territory and the native Slavs would be enslaved. Germany wanted Poland for more land to expand. On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. The Polish army was defeated within weeks of the invasion. From East Prussia and Germany in the north and Silesia and Slovakia in the south, German units broke through Polish defenses along the border. Germany invading Poland started World ll.

    At first in World War II in Europe, Germany wanted to avoid a long war. Germany's strategy was to defeat its opponents. Germany quickly overran much of Europe and was victorious for more than two years by relying on a new military tactic called the Blitzkrieg. Blitzkrieg tactics required the concentration of offensive weapons.     Germany wanted a battle with Britain because before Germany could launch a seaborne invasion of Britain it had to gain air superiority over the English Channel. The battle began in mid-July and the Luftwaffe concentrated on attacking shipping in the English Channel and attacking coastal towns and defenses. German was attacking airfields and radar bases. The Germans were aggravated that the British planes were still fighting off his attacks.

    Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The attack lasted just two hours, but it was awful. More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded. The next day President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan. Congress approved.     15 high-ranking Nazi Party and German government officials discussed on what they called "Final Solution of the Jewish Question.” The plan was to evacuate Jews from west to east. Supposedly, Jews were to be sent to the East to work in forced labor. Within only an hour or hour and a half, the implementation of the Final Solution had been planned and the death sentence of millions passed down.

    The city was very important to Stalin and to Hitler who hated Stalin. The battle began with the German Air force bombing the Volga River and the then the city of Stalingrad. Soon the German army moved in and took a large portion of the city. The Soviet troops were not ready to give up. They hid all around in the city attacking the German Soldiers. This brutal battle began to take its toll on the Germans. In November the Soviets made a counter attack on the Germans and trapped them.

    Soon the Germany began to run out of food. Weak from lack of food and freezing from the cold winter, most German Soldiers surrendered. Hitler was angry with General Paulus for surrendering. He expected Paulus to fight to the death or commit suicide. Around 750,000 soldiers from the German army died and nearly 500,000 Russians. Germany took such a defeat that they never quite recovered.

    Many US Generals wanted an all out invasion on Europe but President Roosevelt trusted Prime Minster of Britain Churchill, in establishing a second front on North Africa. If the move was a success, would contain Germany expansion to Europe, block off all vital shipping lanes in the Mediterranean and provide the allies with a jumping off point into Italy. Operation Torch landing took place supported by air power. The allies didn’t want to fight, not even have a shit fired.

    The operation was between the RAF bomber command and the US army force joining together to create a bombing mission spanning 8 days and 4 nights. The Americans conducting the daylight raids with the British following after nightfall. The first bombing started by the RAF and lasted almost an hour. A second daylight raid by US Air Force was conducted. Than a third raid was conducted on the morning of the 26th. The night attack of July 26th was extremely light because a thunderstorm.

    Only two bomb drops reported. The night of July 27th, aircraft attacked Hamburg. It caused street asphalt to burst into flame, cooked people to death in air-raid shelters, sucked pedestrians off the sidewalks like leaves into a vacuum cleaner. Operation Gomorrah caused at least 50,000 deaths and left over a million German civilians homeless.

    the Allied Forces of Britain, America, Canada, and France attacked German forces on the coast of Normandy, France. Germany had invaded France and was trying to take over all of Europe. Britain and the United States had managed to slow down the expanding German forces. The Germans knew that an invasion was coming. Germany didn't know was where the Allies would strike. It was almost cancelled due to bad weather. First the attack began with the paratroopers.

    The Western Allies crossed the Rhine after having smashed through the strongly fortified Siegfried Line and overran W Germany. German collapse came after the meeting of the Western and Russian armies at Torgau in Saxony, and after Hitler's death amid the ruins of Berlin, which was falling to the Russians under their marshals. The unconditional surrender of Germany was signed at Reims on May 7 and ratified at Berlin on May 8.
