    • 2000 American people died and over 1000 people were wounded as well as 200 airplanes destroyed and 20 naval vessels.
    • Franklin Roosevelt declared war on Japan.

    • January 20, 1942 15 Nazi party and German officials had a meeting over “the final solution to the Jewish people.
    • The solution was to exterminate the entire population of the European Jews.
    • Heydrich said that approximately 11,000,000 Jews in Europe would fall under the actions of the Final Solution.
    • They then set up the concentration camps in which they separated people by gender then age then work ability.

    • The Battle for Stalingrad was fought during the winter of 1942 to 1943.
    • The Germans invaded Russia and the Russians fled and burned their towns that they were at and their crops.
    • The Germans didn’t have any shelter or food which causes some to freeze to death and others to starve and even some decided to turn back.

    • The orders for Operation Gomorrah were signed on May 27, 1943.
    • On the night of July 24, 1943 the air bombing had started in Hamburg and the bombing continued until August 3.
    • 40-50 thousand people killed and over 1 million people were left homeless.
    • Hitler thought that if this had continued that the Germans would be taken out of the war

    D-Day
    • On June 6, 1944 the Allied Forces of Britain, America, Canada, and France attacked German forces on the coast of Normandy
    • The first sent in the paratroopers to take control of bridges and destroy key targets so that they could send in the main invasion on the beaches.
    • Next they dropped bombs on Germany and while they did that the French had sabotaged their telephone lines and railroads.
    • 150,000 troops landed in Normandy and had pushed the Germans out of France.

    Liberation of concentration camps
    • The Germans tried to hide the camps by burning them as they ran to other camps while running from the allied forces.
    • The Nazis sent the prisoners on death marches away from the camps including Auschwitz the largest concentration camp in Germany.
    • The Germans had killed more than 1 million Jewish prisoners.

    • It was fought early in the morning on December 16th, 1944.
    • There were 89,000 US casualties including 19,000 who died.
    • U.S. forces destroyed their fuel supply’s so they couldn’t fuel their tanks which was a big part of their main battle scheme

    • German collapse came after the meeting of the Western and Russian armies at Torgau in Saxony on April 25th and after Hitler's death
    • Germany surrendered on May 7th.

    Europe during World War II.
