    Birth and Early Life

    Mother Teresa was born as Anjeze Gonxhe Bojaxhui in Skopje, Macedonia. She was born to a Albanian politician, and was the youngest child. At the age of 12, she decided to dedicate her life to God (Biography Mother Teresa).

    Living in Ireland

    In 1928, at 18 years old, she left to go to Ireland to become a nun. She joined the Sisters of Loreto and stayed for a year. Although it was difficult to leave her family, she did it for the sake of God (Mother Teresa of Calcutta on Irish Television, 1974.). She wrote to her sister about her initial thoughts of reaching the convent, and missed her dearly, but was excited to embark on the journey (Mother Theresa - Handwriting Analysis (Graphology) Report, Biography.).

    Becoming a Nun

    While she was in Ireland, she chose the name Sister Mary Teresa after Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. A year later, Sister Mary Teresa traveled on to Darjeeling, India. In May 1931, she made her First Profession of Vows and became an official nun. On May 24, 1937, she took her Final Profession of Vows to a life of poverty, chastity and obedience (Mother Teresa Biography).

    Later Life

    Mother Teresa's work was recognized by many people around the world, and even received the Nobel Peace Prize. She also advocated for peace and helping out the poor because one learns so many valuable lessons from them (Mother Teresa @ National Prayer Breakfast.).

    Life in Calcutta

    On September 10, 1946, she received a call from Christ to help the people of Calcutta suffering from poverty. She was able to start in 1948, and "Over the course of the 1950s and 1960s, she established a leper colony, an orphanage, a nursing home, a family clinic and a string of mobile health clinics" (Mother Teresa Biography).     Death

    After several years of deteriorating health Mother Teresa died on September 5, 1997. She was 87 years old. She suffered from heart, lung, and kidney problems in the last few years of her life. In August 2003, the Catholic Church honored her by beatifying her name in history (Biography Mother Teresa).
