The Good Friday earthquake had a magnitude of 9.2. Its following tsunami killed around one-hundred thirty people. The shaking of the earthquake caused multiple tsunami's over the course of about four minutes. Not only sever tsunami's were triggered, so was a killer landslide. -

The magnitude of the Hokkaido earthquake was 7.8. The tsunami, as a result of the earthquake, killed one-hundred twenty people. 2.95 million homes lost power as a result. The airport was closed for several days after this tragic event. -

The Papua New Guinea quake had a magnitude of 7.1. The resulting tsunami killed 2,100 people. The aftershock hit less than thirty minutes later. It is in an area that is common for earthquake's known as the "ring of fire", but they underestimated the aftershock of this treacherous earthquake and tsunami. -

The Sumatra earthquake had a magnitude of 9.1. The tsunami that followed killed 230,000 people. It was thought to have the energy of 23,000 Hiroshama-type atomic bombs. This major quake began in a location in the Indian Ocean. -

The Samoa earthquake contained a magnitude of 8.1. The tsunami after the earthquake killed 200 people. It was the largest earthquake of 2009.Just like this tsunami, about eighty percent of tsunami's take place in the Pacific Ocean. -

The magnitude of the Tohoku earthquake was 9.1. The tsunami that followed killed nearly 20,000 people. More than 5000 aftershocks hit Japan throughout the course of that year. The earthquake shifted the Earth on its axis by redistributing its mass. -
Sulawesi Earthquake - Indonesia
The Sulawesi earthquake had a magnitude of 7.4. The tsunami that followed the earthquake killed around 1,200 people. There were about 65,000 homes that were destroyed. This earthquake and tsunami left 330,000 people homeless.
