    Morse code was created in the 1830s by Samuel Morse. Morse code revolutionized long-distance communication by transmitting electrical signals over a wire laid between locations.

    Samuel Morse made the first morse code demonstration to his class in 1837. He surrounded his classroom with 10 miles worth of wire. The code he created was a system of dots and dashes representing different letters in the alphabet.

    On December 10, 1842 Congress gave Samuel $30,000 to test the feasibility of the telegraph.
  • The First Formal Message

    The First Formal Message
    On May 23, 1844 while in Washington DC, Samuel tapped out the first formal message to his assistant Alfred Vail. Samuel sent the message “What hath God wrought?” Seconds later Alfred received those words Samuel in Baltimore Maryland. It worked!

    In 1866 a British ship laid down the first permanent telegraph line across the Atlantic Ocean.
