French and Indian War
The French and Indian War was when France expanded over the Ohio River because it was claimed by the British colonies. In 1756 British declared war but their leader, Lord Loudoun faced the same problem as everyone else France had been to war with, very little success. During this war all the colonies wanted the taxation to be justified which it did. They were protecting themselves. -
Proclamation of 1763
This never allowed settlers to go beyond parts of the Appalachian Mountains. During this time England was in control and didn't allow the colonial governments to be in charge. Having it be in control like this, things fail. Small effects of the expansion of the colonies. Settlers still went across the boundary's and claimed the land until the Ohio River Valley. -
Treaty of 1763
There was a major issue between France and Britain. France had a dispute because all French territory on the mainland of North America was lost. The British got Quebec and the Ohio Valley. The American colonists felt they had threat of France over them. They wanted Britain´s military to keep them safe from France. After France had left they felt free. -
Committees of Correspondence
The Committees of Correspondence was colonies first institution for maintaining communication with every other American colonies. It was a propaganda campaign and had a influenced the other colonies to do the same. In this it made everyone be against British policy. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a tax on everything you had to put a stamp on. The actual stamp act didn't cost a lot of money but how they manged the act was what upset the colonist very much. -
Boston Massacre
It began in the streets between American colonist and British soldiers, it led into a deadly riot. This led into british sentiment and started a way for the American Revolution. -
Boston Tea Party
Leaders in the cities made plans to block East India Company ships from coming in. During the night 3 groups of 50 men dressed up as mohawk (to look like Indians tribes) to open the tea chest. After they got the tea they took it to the harbor and dumped it in. The British were demanded they must pay it back, but they refused. -
Intolerable Acts
Because of the Boston Tea Party, this act was created. It had four steps, number one they closed the ports of Boston. Number two they reduced their self-government autonomy, number three the people accused of crimes now were tried in England and last must quarter the troops. These acts that were enforced made inhabitants of Massachusetts. It sparked a resistance in all the colonies. -
Lexington and Concord
This war was the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary. British troops marched from Boston to Concord to seize an arms cache. During the time that the troops were marching Paul Revere rode to every colonie during the night to warn people that the red coats were coming. -
Bunker Hill
Bunker hill is when British defeated the Americans at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The significant morale-builder for the inexperienced Americans troops. This was the first major battle of the American Revolution, fought in Charleston. -
Publication of Common Sense
This was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine. The main goal in this was that he showing independence from Great Britain and to the colonies. -
Declaration of Independence
This is the first formal statement for people asserting their right to choose their own government. It signifies the birth of a nation. -
Valley Forge
The congress fled Philadelphia to get away from British capture of the city. The British were occupying Philadelphia during the winter and the American Army needed to watch them and made sure they werent foraging in the country for food they needed. -
Saratoga
The battle happened on second year of the American Revolution. This battle was the turning point in the American Revolution. It gave the Patriots a major boost over the French. The Spanish and Dutch were allies of the American colonies. It was a decisive victory for the Continental Army. -
Cowpens
The Americans inflicted heavy on the British. This battle was a turning point in the war’s Southern campaign. The U.S. forces were under Brigadier General Daniel Morgan and the British forces under Lieutenant Colonel Sir Banastre Tarleton -
Yorktown
The Battle of Yorktown was the ended military operations in the American Revolution. This battle was also the start of a new nation's independence. Cornwallis was told to go to Yorktown to protect the harbor from the British fleet. -
Treaty of Paris
During the war the Treaty the British won many victory's overseas against them. Later after there was a peace talk called by French King Louis XV. The Treaty ended right after the French and Indian war. During the Treaty it explained that France gave up all there territories in North America (New World). France giving them up made life better for the British colonies they no longer had a threat against them.
