    The womens politcal council meet with Mayor W.A. Gayle the changes they sought for Montgomery's bus system, such as no segrated seating and no one standing when there were empty seats. These meetings failed to produce meaningful change so the womens political council began to plan a boycott of the buses of Montgomery.
  • The arrest of Claudette Colvin

    A year after the WPC meet with Mayor W.A. Gayle, the 15 year old Claudette Colvin was arrested for challenging the segregation laws of Montgomery's buses.
  • The arrest of Mary Louise Smith

    Mary Louise Smith was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger
  • The arrest of Rosa Parkes

    Rosa Parkes was arrested for refusing to give up her seat and move back for white passengers. While the previous two arrests did little to mobilize the black community in Montgomery Rosa Parkes was an influential figure in Montgomery's black community and so her arrest lead to the already threatened bus boycott
