Claudette Colvin arrested at age 15 for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. -
Mary Louise Smith Arrested
Mary Louise Smith was arrested at age 18 for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. This was over 40 days after Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat and was arrested as well. She was a civil rights activist and was one of the many people to get arrested after Rosa Parks for refusing to give their seats up that year. -

Rosa Parks refused to move from her seat so the bus could fill the rest of the white passengers. -
Participation in the Boycott
Instead of the expected 60% turnout, an estimated 90%-100% of the black community in Montgomery choose to participate in the boycott. Black leaders meet to dicuss the possibility of extending the boycott. The MIA is created at this meeting, and Dr. King elected its president. The MIA votes to extend the boycott. -
Dr. King's Home Bombed
MLK's home was bombed while he was gone. In response, Dr. King called for peaceful protest rather than violent actions. -

Nixon's home was bombed as well due to protestants. This was significant because it reveals how others were reacting to these movements and boycotts. -
80 Boycott Leaders are Indicted
Over 80 boycott leaders are indicted by the city under Alabama's anti-conspiracy laws. -
Dr. King Indicted As Leader of Boycott
Once he'd been indicated as leader of boycott he was ordered to pay $500 or serve 386 days in jail. This is also one of the things that opened him up to being the victim of assassination attempts. -
End of Bus Segregation
After 13 months, buses are officially desegregated. It was ended by the Montgomery Improvement Association with the help of Browder vs. Gayle.
