Treaty of Ghent
The Treaty of Ghent officially ended the War of 1812. In this treaty, Britain agreed to release claims of the Northwest territory of America. Both countries also promised to make steps towards ending the slave trade. -
Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine set up foreign policy in the United States. It stated that any move on United States territory would be seen as a hostile act against them. The U.S. would not allow other countries to start new colonies in the Western Hemisphere or do anything that interfered with the independent countries on North America or South America.
