The Attack on Pearl Harbor
Hawaii is very important. It is like the control center of the Pacific ocean. If the Japanese were able to take out Pearl Harbor they would be able to take out the United States.

The Battle at Midway
Home to the American military base, Japanese planned to capture the island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. They wanted to start a fight with the Americans because they were positive we would lose. Soon enough America broke Japan's code and were able to figure out their plan.

Battle of Guadalcanal
Both sides won small battles before Japan fled the island. (island hopping battles) This was all on a swamp covered island near Australia.

Executive Order 9066 and Korematsu v. United States
This order was issued by FDR, that Italians, Japanese, and German Americans were to be relocated to interment camps. -
MacArthur returns to the Philippines
He was the chief of US military advisor to the Philippines before World War 2. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
This was the bloodiest battle ever in the marines history. The US had over 7,000 casualties. Marines landed in the pacific with the largest-known Marine battle. Capturing the two Iwo Jima helped with the air support and bombings planned against the Japanese.

The Island Hopping strategy
This was a strategy to take Japan's held islands. This was so that the Americans could bomb Japan to prepare for the invasion of the Japanese home island.

Atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The United States fought back, on two of Japan's cities, with what is know as the deadly mushroom, after the Attack on Pearl Harbor. This was the first atomic bombs.
