  • Proclamation of Neutrality

    George Washington created and then announced the Proclamation of Neutrality to show we were going to stay neutral during the conflicts between France and Great Britain.

  • XYZ Affair

    The XYZ Affair was a diplomatic incident between France and the United States which resulted in the Quasi war.

  • Convention of 1800

    The Convention of 1800 occurred so France and the United States could settle disagreements that happened during the Quasi war.

  • Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal between France and the United States. This deal cost 15 million dollars and we received 827,000 square miles west of the Mississippi River.

  • Embargo Act

    The Embargo Act made all exports from the United States illegal. The goal of the act was to force Britain and France to respect the Americans rights during the Napoleonic Wars.

  • War of 1812

    This war was fought between the United States, United Kingdom and many Native American colonies.

  • Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent was a peace agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom to end the War of 1812.

  • Monroe Doctrine

    The Monroe Doctrine is a principle of US policy, created by President James Monroe. It states that any intervention by external powers in the politics of the Americas is a potentially hostile act against the US.
