Proclamation of Neutrality
The Proclamation of Neutrality was issued by George Washington on as a formal announcement that declared the nation neutral in the conflict between the British and the French. -
XYZ Affair
The XYZ Affair happened in both 1797 and in 1798. The XYZ Affairs was when American diplomats were denied conference with the French Abassador, unless they paid a large bribe to three French agents. These three French agents were nicked X, Y, and Z. This event greatly soured relations between the French and the US during the French revolutionary period. -
