  • The First Gulf War

    The First Gulf War
    Iraq invaded Kuwait in early August. Saudi Arabia and Egypt became worried so they called the United States and other Western countries to intervene. Iraqi leader Hussein defied the UN's attempts to stop the invasion, so the U.S. led an air attack known as Operation Desert Storm. Later, President George Bush declared a cease-fire, and there were basically no more Iraqi troops in Kuwait.

    World Trade Center Bombings
    On February 26, at 12:18 P.M., a 1,200 pound bomb was set of in the parking garage below the world trade center. The bomb made a 100x200 hole in the building. The bombing killed 6 people and injured over 1,000 people.
  • Oklahoma City Bombing

    Oklahoma City Bombing
    On April 19, a truck parked outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was filled with explosives. It killed 168 people and left hundreds injured. It was set of by an anti-government militant Timothy McVeigh.
  • United States Involvement in Serbia

    United States Involvement in Serbia
    The United States wanted to help gain relations with Serbia because of their location between Eastern and Western Europe. At the time, Yugoslavia was a massive country made of many regions on the Balkan peninsula. The U.S. declared war in March of 1999 because of a genocide in the area. The U.S. mostly bombed the region of Serbia because they had the largest concentration of military targets.

    Attack on the USS Cole
    On October 12, the USS Cole was docked at Aden for a refuel. A few suicide bombers from the group al Qaeda set of a bomb in a small ship outside of the USS Cole. It ripped a hole in the ship killing 17 US sailors.

    Another plane was taken over by the passengers on the plane trying to stop the hijackers from crashing into an important building. A total of 2,996 people were killed on this day

    9/11 Attacks Part 1
    On September 11, at 8:45 A.M., a Boeing 767 loaded with jet fuel crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. The hole in the building was around the 80th floor and the building had to be evacuated. As new broadcasters were showing live video and the news a second plane crashed into the south tower 18 minutes later. An hour later, another plane crashed into the Pentagon leaving in an inferno of flames.

    Invasion of Afghanistan
    The U.S. first invaded Afghanistan on October 7. They did so because Bush accused the Taliban government of hiding Osama Bin Laden, who was in charge of the 9/11 attacks. The Taliban offered to put him on trial, but only by a 3rd country, other than the U.S.

    Invasion of Iraq
    On March 19, Bush joined together U.S. troops and some troops from the United Kingdom to invade Iraq. They started to bomb Baghdad and the president announced that they were trying to disarm to government and free their people. Saddam Hussein, Iraqi leader, was in the process of building weapons of mass destruction.

    Mumbai Attacks
    On November 26, an Islamic terrorist group known as Lashkar-e-Taiba, carried out 12 different shootings and bombing attacks in Mumbai. At least 164 people were killed from 10 different countries.
  • Boston Marathon Bombings

    Boston Marathon Bombings
    On April 15, 2 bombs went off near the finish line of the annual Boston Marathon. More than 260 people were injured and 3 spectators were killed. The actions were carried out by a group that grew up in Kyrgyzstan, a former region on the Soviet Union.
