The Communists took over China, and the Nationalists were forced to go to Taiwan and make their own governement. -

Tiananmen Square Massacre
Government-controlled tanks and troops raided Tiananmen Square, where students had been doing what the government called "counter-revolutionary" demonstrations, killing both students that hadn't fled, and civilians trying to stop them.
