Dalton's Model
Dalton's model is the theory of all matter being made up of atoms, which are particles too small too see without a microscope. At this time, it was said that atoms had different masses, and different atoms were made up of different elements. In saying this, all atoms that were made up of the same element have the same mass. And when atoms of different elements were mixed or combined, a compound would be created. it also States that atoms CANNOT be created or destroyed. -
Thomson's Model
Thomson called this model the "plum pudding model." this model shows that the atom contains particles called electrons. These electrons have a have a very small mass, as well as a negative charge. The rest of the sphere has a posative charge.the electrons are said to have been embedded into the sphere, making the whole atom neutral. -
Rutherford's Model
in 1911, Rutherford discovered that the most recent atom model created by J. J. Thomson, was incorrect. Rutherford's new theory came up because he discovered that inside the atom, it is mostly empty space with a dense nucleus that is posetively charged, surrounded by negative electrons. He foound this out by doing an experiment that he called the Gold Foil Experiment. -
Bohr's Model
The Bohr model is of a small, positively charged nucleus surrounded by waves of electrons within each other, otherwise called orbiting, kind of similar to the solar system. these rings around the nucleus are called orbits or shells.
FUN FACT: Niels Bohr was Danish. Who knew?! -
Quantum Model Continued
levels. The theory wave of mechanics says that electrons do NOT move about the atoms nucleus in a speific path similar to planets around the sun, like the Bohr Model suggested. It is scientifically proven to be impossible to pinpoint the exact location of an electron, but you can find the probable location based on its energy. Overall the Quantum model is meant to show how electrons move randomly in electron clouds called orbitals. -
Ouantum Model
This model was made by Erwin Schrodinger and Werner Heisenberg. The model is the most current theory of the atom. It is still belived to be what the atom looks like today, but we may be wrong, because at one point in time, people also thought that the atom looked like daltons billard ball model and after a while, other's proved it to be wrong. The atom consists of a dense nucleus made up of protrons and neutrons surrounded by electrons that are located in different clouds at the various energy
