Miley was born on November 20th in Franklin, Tennessee to Billy-Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus. Contrary to popular belief her birthname is not Miley it is ‘Destiny Hope’. She got the nickname ‘smiley miley’ when she was small because she was always smiling, and as of recent officially changed her name to Miley (IMDb). -
Early life and career
She started schooling in Tennessee but at the age of 8 moved to Toronto because her dad’s TV show ‘DOC’ was being filmed there. Around this time Miley decided she wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps and act too. She scored rolls in Doc and Tim Burton’s Big Fish (IMDb). -
Hannah Montana
Theme songIn 2005, when Miley was 12, her big break came. She was cast to play Hannah in Hannah Montana a new show on Disney. The show was an instant hit. It aired at a key time, after High School Musical, and soon had a large following of teen girls. After the first few episodes, Disney added 6 extra episodes to the first season that already contained 20, scheduled a Hannah Montana soundtrack album, a Miley Cyrus album and had plans for a Miley and Hannah inspired clothing line(Steinberg). -

Miley also starred in a very Popular movie called ‘The Last Song’ (IDBM). This is the movie adaptation of Nicholas Spark’s book. In the movie she portrays the character called Ronnie and throughout the events in the movie Ronnie falls in love with the male lead played by Liam Hemsworth (who she dates and gets engaged to in real life, although the wedding was called off in 2013). This is an important event in Miley’s career because it shows that she is maturing and can play differnt rolls. -

As Miley grew older she tried to distance herself from her Hannah Persona. While filming the last season of Hannah Montana, Miley released and album titled ‘Can’t Be Tamed’. This was a very risque album for Miley. In the album cover for the album she is dressed in very tight, small, leather attire, while having a very intimidating look on her face. Miley was critiqued very harshly for this album as people had a hard time accepting that she was growing up and away from Hannah (Barnes). -
VMAs
Acceptance SpeechIn recent years Miley has been view to have gone crazy in some people’s eyes. She has cut her hair extremely short and often wore little to no clothing when in public. One notable thing that she has put a lot of effort into is her charity called the ‘Happy Hippie Foundation’. This is a charity that helps homeless teens. Miley had a homeless teen accept her award at the VMAS for video of the year, showing a caring side thought not to be there.
