Early Life
Miley Cyrus was born on November 23, 1992 in Nashville, Tennessee with the country singer Billy Rae Cyrus as her father. With her dad's influence as an actor/singer, she always wanted to follow in his footsteps. She began taking singing and acting classes. In 2003, credited under her birth name, she was casted into her first movie, Big First. -
Hannah Montana
At age 11 she auditioned for the show Hannah Montana on Disney Channel about a school girl with a secret double life as a teen popstar. She orignally auditioned for the best friend role, but ended up having the lead role as "Miley Stewart." Hannah Montana permiered on March 24, 2006 and was a success, which helped propel her to teen idol status. She became the first artist to have deals in television, film consumer products, and music within The Walt Disney Company. -
Meet Miley Cyrus
After the second season of Hannah Montana was finished, she released a double-disk record. Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus. During the fall of 2007, The Best of Both Worlds tour was launched with The Jonas Brothers, Aly&Aj and Everlife as her opening acts. A Ticketmaster offical said that "There hadn't been a demand of this level or insanity since The Beatles or Elvis." In 2008, because of the success Walt Disney Pictures released Hannah Montana&Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert movie. -
Ending Hannah Montana
In 2009, she starred in the film Hannah Montana: The Movie which was a huge succes and inculding a soundtrack. She also lanch her own clothing line in partnership with Wal Mart. The forth and final season of Hannah Montana began airing on Disney Channel on July 11th, 2010. She then released the album "Can't Be Tamed" on June 21, 2010 selling 106,000 in the first week, which was her lowest selling scores. -
Seeing the changes
Miley wanted to focus on her acting. In 2012, she starred in the film LOL plating Lola. The film recieved limited release and was unsuccessful overall. On May 31, 2012, Miley and Liam Hensworth became engadded. She also recieved lots of media attention and controversy after cutting off her loved, long, brown hair to a pixie, bleach blonde hair. -
Video Music Awards
Miley Cyrus performed at the VMA show with artist Robin Thicke. In her performace at the show, Miley wore very revealing clothing and danced in a way lots of people found provactive with her tounge out. Her performace that night caused a lot of controversy, but got Miley the huge amount of media attention she wanted. -
Wrecking Ball
Miley's next single from her album Bangerz was Wrecking Ball. The music video was released setting again another Vevo record for 19.3 million views in the first 24 hours. The video also received lots of media attention. It became her first single to reach #1 on Billboard Hot 100. -
We Can't Stop
On September 16, 2013, after months of media rumors, Liam and Miley called off their engagement and ending their four year relationship. In 2013 she took a different direction in her music, hiring Larry Rudolph and signing a record contract with RCA Records. She released her 4th studio album Bangerz and her first single from that record, We Can't Stop. The song was a huge success and the music video broke the record for being the fastest video to reach 100 million viewa in 37 days. -
Miley The Movement
MTV aired a documentary called Miley The Movement which chroicled the recording of Bangerz and behind the scences footage, including Miley Cyrus preparing for her 2013 VMA's performance. She also hosted Saturday Night Live for the second time reciving mainly positive reviews who praised her acting talent. -
Where She is Now
July 1, 2014, Forbes published a list of the most powerful celebrities at the moment. Miley placed #17, before Taylor Swift and Mariah Carey. The last time she made this list was when she was performing as teen star Hannah Montana, now a pop singer all grown up causing so much controversy. Miley says that she is now working on her next album and doesn't know when it'll be finished.
