  • The White Australian Policy.

    The White Australian Policy.
    In 1901, the Australian government put up the Immigration Restriction Act or better known as, ‘The White Australian Policy’. This policy added had restricted non “white” people, to enter Australia, since they wanted to keep Australia “British” because the percentage of European and Asia people (mostly Chinese) was increasing for the Chinese. This increased the amount of European people, but this decreased the overall population by 1.04%

    WW1!!

    From 1901 until the start of World War I in 1914, Most of the people that came to Australia was European. During the gruesome events of WW1, many men had to go to war to fight and many families were left at the household, wondering whether their husbands and sons were ever coming back. Because of the war, immigration from other places stopped, especially, from places like China. Those who came were, like the abnegation from the book Divergent, it just made the refugees stand out more then ever.
  • 6.6 Million People!

    In the year 1931, Australia grew to about 6.6 Mil people, through a census servey. The prime minister at that time, was James Scullin.

    World War 2

    This world war, was more tragic than the last. This was because of the numerous new war inventions such as the atomic bomb, which is what made Japan surrender, eventually ending the war. Many people, fled, running from all the destruction. However, at the end of the war, Australia realised it needed more people to strengthen economy and to help pick things up from the ground. Many that the economy boosted about 2.7% of its population after the war. Because of the needed people.
  • The Cold War

    The Cold War
    The Cold War was a bad time, where America and the Soviet Union were fighting about political forces. Australia consequently sided with America. The end of the Soviet union was at the end of the war, where they apparently fell apart to become what we now know as Russia, Ukraine and ect. The Cold War made Australia a slightly poorer country and many people suffered the fate of death.

    The Vietnam War!!!

    During the sad time, may lives were lost, and many fled in fear and became refugees in places like Australia. Even about 2,000 arrived by boats, and even more fled in different ways. The war was about the North Vietnam and the Soviet Union wanting communism and so they fought the South Vietnam and the United States. So many people ran to Australia which was almost considered a peaceful place, hence the countless people coming to Australia.

    The end of The White Australian Policy
    In 1973, The discriminatory act of the white Australian policy, was ended so Australia become from then on, a more diverse and multicultural country. When the boundaries of the policy was put down, Many non-Europeans countries, began to flood into Australia again, and began to increase the amount to people in Australia. This happened just in time, as many people, could start coming in from vietnam and other countries to flee from the Vietnam war
  • Early 20th century

    In the early 2000, many people from many countries came to Australia. Australian bureau of statistics, found out that 48% of the people coming, was for the education, 10% for business reasons, 17% for employment, and 25% for other reasons. Australia was a growing country back then and was still recovering, however, continually, most people in Australia, (52%) are from overseas and so that is how Australia got its multicultural title. There was also a promise for a better life.
