    The Indian Removal Act
    The Indian Removal Act forced the Indians to move, this act granted the president authority to grant lands west of the Mississippi River, the tribes had to move west of where they were. With the land they took from the natives they decided to make borders with those lands
  • The Trail of Tears

    The Trail of Tears
    The Trail of Tears was in 1830-1850 it was when they forced the westward migration to the natives. The natives had few resources and they would get sick, about 13% of natives died on the journey.
  • The Civil War

    The Civil War
    The Civil War had a division from the north and south, Lincolns election was during the Civil War they viewed his election to bringing an end to slavery. The south wanted to recruit the 5 tribes, so he sent someone to make treaties with the tribes, most of the tribes supported the south the only ones who were in between were Cherokee and Seminole.
  • The Reconstruction Treaties

    The Reconstruction Treaties
    The Reconstruction Treaties were when Freedmen's enrollment came in which meant that all the tribe slaves had to become tribal members. These Treaties also made the Second Indian Removal so tribes had to make room for westward expansion.
  • The Dawes Act

    The Dawes Act
    The Dawes Act was passed in 1887 by Congress, this Act was also known as the General Allotment Act. The act aimed to assimilate native americans into American culture, the result of this act impacted tribal land ownership.
  • The Oklahoma Land Rush

    The Oklahoma Land Rush
    The Oklahoma Land Rush was the first land run that lead to unassigned lands of former Indian Territory, many people where in this rush. Men and women ran to claim homesteads.
  • The Indian Reorganization Act

    The Indian Reorganization Act
    This Act started in 1934, it was known as the Wheeler Howard Act. This act aimed to undue harmful policies that happened in the past, it restored some land to tribal ownership, and it also encouraged tribal self government, which meant this act did not want the tribes to be in a government.
