The Trail of Tears was an event in history where all the Native Americans were forced to travel to what is now Oklahoma. (Cherokee suffered the most)

The American Civil War divided up the nation into 2 sections. The Union, and The Confederates, they were separated because of their beliefs, one of them being slavery. The North wanted to abolish Slavery, but the South wanted Slavery.

After the Civil War, the US made Treaties with the Native Americans, this made it so the Natives were now governed by the US government and the Natives couldn't self govern, removing political power from the Natives.

The Dawes Act made it so the land that the Native Americans were now assigned chunks of land (thee chunks of land varied on how many people were in a family, if they were orphans, etc)

The White Settlers were racing to get land from Oklahoma because the Natives had "excess land" So White settlers made an effort to claim as much land as possible.

This helped the Natives get back some rights like self government, but it didn't help them too much.
