  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The start of the Revolutionary War. The colonists made the British retreat all the way back to Boston. Forty-nine colonists were killed and seventy-three redcoats were killed.
  • Meeting of the Second Continental Congress

    A meeting of delegates from the Thirteen Colonies in America which united if matters got worse. The meeting happened on the morning as Fort Ticonderoga was taken by Americans.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    A siege that lasted for 11 months before the British took both Breeds and Bunker hill. The British severed heavy casualties with 268 and the colonists suffered heavy casualties with 115 American soldiers dead.
  • Failed Seizure of Quebec under Benedict Arnold

    A failed attack to capture the British-occupied city of Quebec under Colonel Benedict Arnold. The Americans had 50 killed and the British had 5 killed.
  • Common Sense Published

    A pamphlet written by Thomas Paine which advocates independence from Great Britain among the 13 colonies,
  • Adoption of the Declaration of Independence

    The Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence with all but New York voting in agreement.
  • Battle of Trenton

    A battle where General George Washington and his army crossed the Delaware river. The Americans won the battle suffering two deaths due to exposure and the British suffered 22 deaths during the battle before surrendering to the Americans.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The climax of the Saratoga campaign, the British won the first battle at Freeman's farm, and the Americans won the second battle at Bemis Heights. The British had 440 deaths and the Americans had 90 deaths overall.
  • Paoli Massacre (Battle of Paoli)

    A battle fought in the Philadelphia campaign at the surrounding area of what is now Malvern, Pennsylvania. The British won with only 4 deaths and the Americans 201 killed or wounded.
  • Washington’s Encampment at Valley Forge

    An encampment eighteen miles from Philadelphia which General Washington stayed at for six months because the British had taken over Philadelphia.
