  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The first battle between the colonists and the British Troops and well known for the "shots heard around the world event". The British Army came from Boston to capture rebel leaders Samuel Adams and John Hancock in Lexington and also to destroy the weapons stored in Concord. The Americans won the battle and made the British retreat back to Boston.
  • Meeting of the Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress was the main government body of the American colonies from 1775 to 1781. They established the Continental Army and made George Washington the General of the Army.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    It was a victory for Britain, but an moral victory for the colonists since the British three tries to get to the hill, and lost many of their soldiers. The colonists were forced to retreat because they ran out of ammunition.
  • Failed Seizure of Quebec under Benedict Arnold

    The first major defeat of the war for the Americans, and came at a heavy loss, including their loss of General Richard Montgomery.
  • Common Sense Published

    The pamphlet was easy to understand and united colonists to support the idea of independence.
  • Adoption of the Declaration of Independence

    The Continental Congress declared separation from Great Britain by listing down their grievances.
  • Battle of Trenton

    The Hessian army was crushed in Washington's raid across the Delaware River and the Americans were invigorated by the easy defeat of the British Hessian forces.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    This was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. The victory at Saratoga boosted the spirit and morale of the Americans and convinced the French to provide aid and support to the revolution.

  • Battle of Paoli

    The British lead a surprise attack at Paoli, PA, which killed about 200 American soldiers.
  • Washington’s Encampment at Valley Forge

    A major turning point in the Revolutionary War. General George Washington encamped at Valley Forge for six months and trained the Continental Army into an unified, world-class fighting force capable of beating the British.
