Malala is born
Malala Yousafzai was born in Mingora, Pakistan on July 12, 1997, to Ziauddin Yousafzai and Toor Pekai Yousafzai. While having a daughter isn't always considered a good thing in Pakistan, Ziauddin wanted everything for Malala that she would've had as a boy. -
Malala's School Life
Malala loved going to school until the Taliban took control of her town in Swat Valley. Many everyday things were banned, such as listening to music and watching TV. Girls could no longer go to school. People would be punished if they went against their orders. Malala left her school at age 11, not knowing when she would return. -

Girls are Banned from School
Maulana Fazulla, the creator of "Radio Mullah", hoped to brainwash everyone to follow his orders along with the Taliban and announced that schools for girls in Swat must be shut down. -
Returns
Malala returns back to her school. -
Malala was Shot
Malala spoke out for girls’ rights to be educated. Because of this, she was made a target of the Taliban. They boarded her school bus one day and shot her on the left side of her head. -
I Am Malala
Malala published a book called, "I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban." The novel was about her life story. -
Recovery
She and her family settled into their new home in the U.K after months of surgeries and rehabilitation. Malala was determined to continue her strive for girls to have an education. Her father had made a charity dedicated to giving girls an opportunity to have an open future, called the Malala Fund. -
Nobel Prize
Malala received a Nobel Peace Prize in December 2014. She became the youngest ever Nobel laureate. -
Present Day
Malala is currently studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford. While being there, she can get a better understanding of the impact of political institutions on modern societies.
