George Washington led a surprise attack against Hessian soldiers near Christmas. This plan worked and Americans defeated the Hessian troops after crossing the Delaware River. -

George Washington and American troops stay at Valley Forge during the winter or 1777-78. During this time food is scarce and many soldiers die of sickness. Very harsh conditions kill many of the American Army. -
Battle of Saratoga
This battle is considered the turning point of the Revolutionary War. British troops surrendered and had far more casualties than American soldiers. -
Paoli Massacre
British troops kill Americans while they are sleeping. The red coats use swords to kill the unarmed troops, their leader used their disadvantage as a sneak attack. This lead to a British conquering, while killing many Americans.
